Congress is eyeing a new way to pay doctors under Medicare
What happened: A bipartisan bill called the Patients First Act would guarantee doctors regular Medicare pay increases tied to medical inflation — something hospitals already get but individual physicians don't — and would pull back on the "pay more only if you keep patients healthier" model.
Why it matters to you: This is the fight over how you and every other physician on Medicare get paid going forward, after years of flat or shrinking reimbursement.
Do this: Nothing tonight — it's an emerging proposal, not a vote — but worth watching if you want a say before it firms up.

Do political debates still matter, now that Florida's biggest races might not have any?
Live this week: as of today, no debates are scheduled in any of Florida's statewide races. Republican Byron Donalds and Democrat David Jolly aren't set to debate in the governor's race, and GOP Sen. Ashley Moody has declined to debate Democratic challenger Angie Nixon. Donalds also skipped the Republican primary debate earlier this year.
Debates still matter
Drew Piers (Sachs Media) calls debates "vital for democracy" — a rare chance to "see candidates side by side," under pressure, away from a script. He argues they play "such an important role in civic education" that voters lose something real when they disappear.
Not like they used to
Jackson McMillian (Key Lime Strategies) says debates now mostly preach to the choir — "insider baseball" that doesn't "influence the greater population" the way it once did. He notes it's usually the trailing candidate pushing hardest for a debate, because it's free cable coverage they couldn't otherwise buy — which is its own reason a front-runner says no.
Where it lands: no verdict here — social media now lets campaigns control their own message directly, without a moderator forcing a face-to-face, and that's reshaping whether debates happen at all. (WFSU)

Iran/Gulf: Iran's foreign minister Abbas Araghchi told the UN today that Tehran has offered Washington, via Qatar, a seven-day plan to reopen the Strait of Hormuz — conditioned on the US lifting its naval blockade of Iranian ports, releasing frozen Iranian funds, and waiving oil sanctions. A senior Iranian official separately told Reuters the waterway stays closed regardless until "all of Iran's conditions are met," and Tehran won't budge on its nuclear program either way. Cuba: The US is weighing new travel restrictions on Cuban officials headed to next month's UN vote on the embargo.
