Morning, Marco — hope the night was kind. Two days out from wheels-up.
Quiet on the clinical wires today, but the Knicks find out their Finals opponent tonight,
Iran and the U.S. are circling a deal, and your Granada warm-up closes the pre-trip set.

Knicks' Finals opponent gets decided tonight
Update: New York has been waiting since sweeping
Cleveland — and the wait ends tonight. Thunder–Spurs Game 7 (Sat May 30,
8 PM ET) sends either Oklahoma City or San Antonio to the Finals. The Knicks open
Game 1 on the road, Wednesday June 3, 8:30 PM ET on ABC — their first
Finals appearance since 1999, riding an 11-game playoff win streak with Brunson as ECF MVP.
For you specifically: Game 1 tips at 2:30 AM Madrid time on Lisbon Day 3.
The whole series overlaps the trip. Worth a quick streaming/geofence test before Sunday —
and if it goes long, a Game 7 would land June 21, safely after you're home.
U.S. and Iran reach a tentative deal — Trump hasn't signed
Per Al Jazeera
and CNN,
negotiators reached a tentative memorandum on May 28 — language reopening the Strait of Hormuz
and a 60-day window to settle Iran's enriched-uranium stockpile. Trump spent ~2 hours in the
Situation Room May 29 for a "final determination" and had not announced a decision.
Meanwhile the ground stayed hot: an Iranian missile fired toward Kuwait and ~5 drones near
Hormuz were intercepted overnight, with the U.S. striking back.
Talking point, not a work item — the diplomatic and battlefield clocks are
running at different speeds again. Treat "largely agreed" as provisional until both align.
The DebateSection B · both sides, named voices
Should nurse practitioners get full practice authority without physician supervision?
Why it's live: 30 states plus D.C. now grant NP full
practice authority, and 2026 has been a battlefield — independence bills were defeated in Florida,
Indiana, Mississippi, Tennessee, Virginia and West Virginia, while New Jersey just passed a law
letting NPs prescribe independently after 5,000 supervised hours. A new Stanford study and an
updated AANP cost analysis reignited the fight.
For — expand authority
Access is the core of the case: 30 states already let NPs practice to the top of their
license without measurable harm, and a primary-care shortage is leaving rural and underserved
patients with no clinician at all. The AANP
points to its 2026 analysis showing NP-led care saving roughly $2,600 per diabetic patient
versus physician-only care, and argues supervision rules are a paperwork tax that adds cost
without adding safety. A Stanford team
(via NurseJournal)
challenges the premise that supervision meaningfully improves outcomes.
Against — keep physician oversight
Training depth is the crux. The AMA
argues a physician's 10,000–16,000 clinical hours aren't interchangeable with an NP's, and
warns of "scope creep" — noting that where authority has expanded, NPs often move toward
specialties and aesthetics rather than the primary-care deserts the policy promises to fill.
The AMA has put $4M+ behind state medical associations opposing independent-practice bills,
citing patient-safety and malpractice concerns when complex diagnoses go unsupervised.
Where it might land: the momentum is toward a tiered middle path the National
Academy of Medicine backs — supervised apprentice hours (≈2,000–4,600), then autonomy once
competency is shown. New Jersey's 5,000-hour rule is that compromise in the wild.
Trip Warm-Up — GranadaSection F · Day 7 of 7 · the last red hill
Last warm-up city before the real thing — and arguably the one the whole trip builds toward.
You hit Granada on Day 6 (Jun 6), with the Alhambra the headline act of
Day 7 (Jun 7) before the long drive to Madrid and Bad Bunny.
The Alhambra — the "Red Castle"
The name is literally qa'lat al-Hamra', Arabic for "red castle," after the rust-colored
walls that glow at sunset. It's the only surviving palace-city of the Islamic Golden Age and the
last redoubt of the Nasrid dynasty — the final Muslim kingdom in Western Europe.
Most of what you'll walk through (the Court of the Lions, the baths, the Hall of the Ambassadors)
is the work of Yusuf I and Muhammad V in the 1300s. Talking point for Havana:
it surrendered to Ferdinand and Isabella on January 2, 1492 — the same year
Columbus sailed and the Jews were expelled from Spain. One hilltop, the hinge of a whole era.
And it was a half-ruin until Washington Irving, the American writer, moved into
the crumbling palace in 1829 and wrote Tales of the Alhambra, sparking its rescue.
The Albaicín & Sacromonte — the old town and the caves
Across the ravine from the Alhambra, the Albaicín is the oldest quarter in
Granada — a Zirid royal seat back in the 11th century, before the Alhambra even existed, that
grew to 40,000 people and thirty mosques under the Nasrids. Its tangled medieval street plan is
the finest Hispano-Muslim townscape left in Andalusia. Climb to the Mirador de San
Nicolás at dusk for the postcard view of the Alhambra against the Sierra Nevada.
Just uphill, Sacromonte is the Roma cave district — when Granada's Muslims and
Jews were expelled after 1492, Romani families settled the hillside and carved homes into the
rock. Out of that came Granada's own flamenco, the zambra (from Arabic
zamra, "festivity") — a cave-dance style rooted in old Morisco wedding rituals. If the
family wants one show on the trip, a Sacromonte cave is the atmospheric pick.
Trip pings — two events now locked in
🐂 Corrida del Corpus · Sevilla · Thu Jun 4, 7:00 PM, Real Maestranza.
The Corpus bullfight returns to Seville's ring after a 16-year absence — an all-Sevillian "art"
cartel led by Morante de la Puebla, the most artistically influential matador of
his generation (think the living link back to Belmonte). Reportedly sold out. Practical for you:
aim to arrive ~45 min early so everyone settles unhurried; if the party gets a choice, shade
(sombra) beats sun. It's ~2.5 hours / six bulls — fine to plan a quiet exit option if
anyone's had enough.
🥩 Sobrino de Botín · Madrid · Mon Jun 8, 3:30 PM.
Guinness's oldest restaurant in continuous operation — est. 1725, same wood oven
reportedly never let go cold. Order the cochinillo asado (roast suckling pig);
Hemingway closed The Sun Also Rises with a Botín lunch. Reservation's in; smart-casual,
no shorts. 3:30 is the tail of the Spanish lunch hour, so the room empties around you — pleasant,
unrushed. If you also do Toledo that day, make it a morning.
