What happened: The AMA/Vaccine Integrity Project review and a joint AAP–AAFP–ACOG–IDSA statement (Sep 2) set this season's flu, COVID and RSV recommendations after ACIP — sidelined by a March federal court order — never met in 2026. Flu for everyone 6 months+; RSV for adults 75+ (and 60–74 at risk), pregnant women, and infants; COVID for older and high-risk adults. A CDC spokesperson told Healio (Sep 4) the agency is "finalizing" its own recommendations with no timeline; last year's guidance stands. AHIP says plans will cover the shots at no cost through 2027.
Why it matters to you: Your 80-year-old admit is exactly the RSV/COVID target, and the order set in the EHR may still point at last year's CDC language.

What happened: CDC's count hit 3,134 — a 35-year high and the second record year running, 93% unvaccinated. On Friday the Lancaster County coroner said a 6-week-old girl died of measles (she also had Amish lethal microcephaly), the county's second infant death after a newborn in mid-August; Pennsylvania's outbreak is at 577 cases and 98 hospitalizations. Last week CDC had publicly disputed PA's death attributions — the coroner's finding answers that. PAHO reviews US elimination status in November.

Why it's live: ACIP hasn't met all year after a federal court voided its 2025 reconstitution; CDC said this week it is still "finalizing" 2026–27 guidance; and on Sep 2 the AMA-led Vaccine Integrity Project plus AAP, AAFP, ACOG and IDSA published their own. Respiratory season starts now.
Dr. Amesh Adalja (Johns Hopkins Center for Health Security) argues the evidence base hasn't changed, only who is reading it, and that a society-led process is the most credible one available while ACIP is, in his words, "basically in shambles." CDC's position (spokesperson to Healio, Sep 4) is that last year's recommendations remain in force and the agency is completing its own review — meaning hospitals that hard-wire society guidance into order sets are choosing a private body over the statutory one that anchors VFC, state pharmacist-authority laws and some payer contracts. Robert Malone, the former ACIP member, has argued that broad institutional recommendations should give way to individual provider–patient decisions on real-world risk and benefit, a framing HHS has formalized in its request for input on "shared clinical decision-making" categories.
